Candle Care and Information

LivEssence handcrafted soy candles require some tender loving care to ensure they burn safely and remain looking and smelling beautiful until the wick's last burn. After your purchase, store your products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and please read the information below to assist with the care and life of your candles.

Ingredients

100% Natural Soy Wax

Soy is an eco-friendly, biodegradable and sustainable product and is made from the oil of soy beans. It is non-toxic and it burns at a lower temperature rate than paraffin candles. Soy has a slower burning rate and a more pure and stronger scent throw than most other candles. LivEssence 100% pure, professional grade soy wax contains no genetically modified organisms (GMO), paraffin or unnatural additives, and is Kosher certified and vegan friendly. Our Australian sourced products are cruelty free and not tested on animals.

Essential Oils

The LivEssence essential oil collection includes beautiful aromatic blends of the highest quality, certified organic*, 100% pure essential oils; recommended by aromatherapists as a use for added health and wellness benefits. A description of these benefits are described in each fragrance selection on the product page. The essential oil blends I create are based on recommendations by aromatherapists only, and do not replace the recommendations given by your medical professional. When it comes to your health, always seek advice from your general practitioner. If pregnant, or using around young children, please consult your health care professional before use. Please take caution when using these oils, and take care to keep away from direct contact with skin and the nose. Please refer to the product 'Details' tab for further information.

Wicks

Each LivEssence candle contains a quality manufactured pure cotton or paper cored lead-free wick, recommended for the type of container it is used in. To help look after your wick, please give it a slight trim before every burn. Sometimes, wicks can appear to ball or "mushroom" at the end, which can cause the wick to "spit", creating a bit of a mess inside your candle jar or around your tealight. Trimming the end of your wick to about 8mm in height will keep the wick neat and tidy and less likely to spit when lighting the candle, or smoke when burning. Ensure all trimmings are removed from the jar and that your wick stays centred for an even burn. On your first burn, your candle is ready to light, without trimming.

Candle Containers

Each container has been professionally manufactured and tested to withstand the temperatures of a burning candle and ensure it is of the highest quality standard. They are sourced from trusted and reputable Australian companies that comply with strict standards. All LivEssence vessels are re-usable products. Just clean them and use them around the home as beautiful storage containers or place a tea light in.

Care of Candles

Burning

When burning your candle for the first time, it requires what is referred to as a 'memory burn'; which means allowing the candle to burn until the wax has melted to the edge of the jar. Performing a memory burn will increase the life of your candle and ensure the wax burns evenly, avoiding the core burn that can develop in the centre of the candle. To ensure an even burn throughout the life of your candle, ensure the wick stays centred as much as possible. The recommended burn time is no longer than 4 hours at a time. It is highly recommended that your candle is finished once the wax has reached a minimum of a centimetre from the bottom of the jar, to prevent the glass from overheating. Although the glass is made to withstand the heat from the candle, there is a risk that if the candle is burned down to the base, breakage may occur.

Extinguishing

When you have finished burning your candle, I recommend extinguishing the flame by replacing the lid. Blowing out your candle will not only spoil the beautiful fragrance it has created, but can also cause soot to spoil the look of your candle jar. Alternatively, you can use a candle dipper to safely dip the wick into the wax, extinguishing the flame. Ensure the wick pops back up after doing so. Take care not to touch the vessel when extinguishing. Should your candle get soot on the glass, simply wait for the wax to solidify, and carefully wipe the inside of the glass with a warm damp cloth. Keep your lid on your candle when not in use to keep the wax clean and protected.

Safety

Each LivEssence soy candle comes with a warning label fitted to the underneath of the jar. Please read this before lighting your new candle. We recommend using a long handled safety lighter to light your candles. Ensure any wick trimmings are removed from the jar before lighting. Remember never to leave a burning candle unattended, or within reach of children or pets. Candle vessels can get extremely hot; use caution when extinguishing your candle and take care not to touch the glass. Never move a candle while alight. Always place your candle on a heat resistant surface or placemat and keep out of draughts and away from other objects. Discontinue use of your candle when the wax is at least a centimetre from the base.
