When Nature Isn’t “Perfect”? But Still Does the Job!
The story of a lumpy candle that worked like a dream.
I’ve been making candles for years now and while I’m a Virgo who loves things neat, balanced, and beautiful, sometimes nature has her own way of doing things.
Over Easter, we spent a few days in Nagambie, and I brought along one of my Patio Night insect-repellent candles. It’s a blend I created for our Aussie summers; to help keep mozzies away without the nasty stuff. It’s full of pure essential oils like citronella, lemongrass, spearmint and rosemary poured into a jar I’d set aside after testing.
Now, I’ll be honest…
The top looked a bit rough. It had dried unevenly, a little wobbly across the surface, and didn’t look like one of my polished market ready candles. It wasn’t ‘Instagram perfect.’ But you know what?
It worked. Like a dream.
We lit it that night on the deck. The bugs stayed away. The air smelled fresh and clean. And I was reminded (again) that nature doesn’t need to be flawless to be effective.
Why this matters:
When you choose handcrafted, natural products; whether it’s candles, sprays, or oils — there may be tiny imperfections. A wonky top, a slightly different colour, a surface crack. That’s not a fault. That’s proof it was made without stabilisers, chemicals, or synthetic hardeners.
And it still does exactly what it’s supposed to do:
✅ Support your body
✅ Create an atmosphere
✅ Help you breathe easier, sleep deeper, or in this case: avoid mozzie bites!
Next time you see a little unevenness in your candle…
Know this: it was poured by hand. By someone who cares. With ingredients that are pure, natural, and real.
The candle might not be perfect.
But the moment it creates? That absolutely is.
